A stray cat in my neighborhood is a black smoke tabby. I had never seen or heard of such! When I was brushing her hair, I was amazed to see that solid white undercoat! She is the sweetest natured little girl
Their beauty is without a doubt a class in their own.
Our cat, Fergus, was rescued from Puerto Rico. Every kitten from the litter was flown to Massachusetts in 2014. Every kitten had different coats–tortie, white, light orange striped, a light orange and Fergus who I am looking into now. I have long been calling him a “reversible” kitty as his under fur is white to light gray but the top is black. Looks like he is a black smoke or Asian smoke. He had to be shaved because of ringworm when we first got him and he looks like an entirely different color, different cat when in his base fur. He looks a lot like a Saimese cat without his topcoat.
Fergus is super playful, friendly and also extremely soft. His fur feels like silk. Like Kelli who commented above I ad never seen a cat like him before we were lucky enough to adopt him.
Any black smoke info would be most welcome, thanks, Tricia
My rescue cat Easton is possibly a black smoke short-haired cat. She seemed solid black when I adopted her in December 2021 at age one and a half. Later, I found a scattering of white hairs on her chest. Recently, I’ve noticed her combed hair seems charcoal gray, and that her hair roots are apparently very white.
Easton has an interesting body type, medium sized with long legs, small paws, slender tail, very energetic and playful.
I have ordered Basepaws kits for my two cats, and will be very interested in learning how Easton registers!
Thanks for all the information on Black Smoke Cats!
